Through playing basketball in the driveway to township leagues, summer camps, Brightbill Park league, Good Shepherd CYO, Trinity HS, and watching March Madness, John Klenk grew to love basketball. Whether playing or watching, he always enjoyed the sport. In this spirit, we are hosting the John Klenk Memorial 3 vs. 3 Basketball Tournament to raise money to support the Good Shepherd Basketball Programs. The new Good Shepherd School and Gym have recently been constructed and are in need of several items for the facility. This is a great opportunity for you to keep John's memory and love of basketball alive, while raising money to support a program that aided in John's development. Additionally, we would like to keep everyone mindful of the consequences of drunk driving.
John, born November 6, 1981, grew up outside of Philadelphia before moving to Mechanicsburg in 4th grade. It was here that John's true love for the sport grew; you could always find him playing basketball in the driveway with friends or at a game competing. John played basketball at Good Shepherd from 4th thru 8th grade and again his junior and senior years of high school. John's high school CYO team made it to the state tournament and where they placed 5th. He also played at Trinity High School for 2 years. John went on to attend St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia as a business major; when his life was cut short by a drunk driver on March 22, 2002. Our family thought this tournament would be a fitting tribute to mark the 5th anniversary of John's death by supporting a cause he loved.
Please join us in participating in the John Klenk Memorial 3 vs. 3 Basketball Tournament at the new Good Shepherd Gym. Gather your sneakers and play, come and watch, volunteer to help, or make a donation to support this wonderful school and program.
